Donn Fendler at the Q&A after the premiere
Last month I headed up to Waterville for the premiere of my friend Derek's film at the Maine International Film Festival. For the past few years Derek and his business partner Cookie have been trying to get the rights to Donn Fendler's classic New England book Lost on a Mountain in Maine. In 1939, twelve year old Donn got lost on Mt Katahdin for nine days without food, water, or appropriate clothing. His incredible tale of survival became an instant classic and is now required reading for all 4th and 5th graders in Maine and New Hampshire. Derek and Cookie's documentary is a mix of Donn's story and their somewhat crazy journey to get the rights to his story (Donn had sold the rights many years ago, but a movie never materialized). The resulting documentary is very well done, and a great first step to getting the feature film made! Congrats Cookie and Derek! Thanks for letting me be a part of this fantastic story!
