Inspiration: State Fair

State Fair, 1945

I find myself watching State Fair annually almost every April, when my spring fever is at its worst. Whimsical, romantic, and beautifully stylized... there's just something about it that always puts a smile on my face. It's actually a remake of a movie made in 1933, but with the added bonus of a Rodgers and Hammerstein score. In true R&H form the music is perfect, capturing the playful melancholy of Margie, the sly country charm of Wayne, and the beautiful Iowa spirit.
But the real standout for me was always the clothes. Everyone is impeccably styled. From the wardrobes of Jeanne Craine and Vivian Blaine, to every single dancer, stand-in and extra, it's all perfect. Summer dresses from the 1940s are one of my weaknesses, and there's plenty of eye candy to choose from here. And the hair! I really need to learn how to do pin curls, although my hair is probably too long for it at this point.

Anyway, since I've been a slut for mood boards lately, Enjoy!
